Anointing of the Sick

Anointed with Oil

James 5:14 states, "Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord."

The sacrament of the anointing of the sick invokes the Lord's healing on those who are suffering. If the person is in danger of death, it also prepares him to make the journey home.

Any Catholic who is experiencing serious illness, who is preparing for surgery, or who is struggling with the effects of old age may receive the sacrament.
